STAGE DESIGN

Picture
As a stage designer, I have worked as Technical Director for the Forum, a community theatre in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and opened the Jonesboro Dinner Theatre a year after leaving the Forum.  At the Forum, I had been cast as Gepetto in the FOA production of Pinocchio.  I volunteered to design a set.  Enjoying the job and finding my inner desire, I was blessed and offered the job as Technical Director.  As TD, I served as Scenic Designer, construction and supervision of volunteer workers, Light Designer and placement and Sound Designer and placement.  The concept of the JDT was to present newly written plays for local playwrights, assist them in creating their shows and seeing them performed for the public.  Two of the shows presented were my plays, the revised version of "Oh No, Not Them!" and a musical called "Studio Disco."  All dinner theatre shows were presented in arena format.  As director of the small theatre, I was responsible for set design and construction, light design and development, sound design, marketing, record keeping, and overall operations.

My involvement at ASU has been an extraordinary learning experience.  As stated before, I was blessed to have the opportunity to work with the Foundation of Arts and the opportunity to operate a small dinner theatre.  My experience with the Foundation of Art gave me a change to be creative and design in ways I had only wished about.  Though my designs may have not been high in detail I felt that they were very creative considering I had no experience or professional training.  This experience sparked a fire to encourage me to pursue my second degree and as a result have learned an incredible amount of knowledge in set design which I wish I had when working for the FOA.    Looking back, I am very proud of what I accomplished as an untrained designer of the arts who only had a  management and an architectural drafting background.  After viewing my sets, I hope you feel the same.
